THE RIVER NEVER SLEEPS - LANGDON FARM WAS ESTABLISHED BEFORE THE U.S. CONSTITUTION. Langdon Farm 1659 sits on 153 acres including 4,000 feet of waterfront on Harris Creek and Dun Cove, tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. Originally built in 1783 of Flemish bond brick with some walls ranging from 24 to 38 inches thick. The home has been expanded and renovated (Arthur C Holden and associates - NYC ) around its original frame to its present state of a more than 12,000-square-foot home. The farm, which dates back to a land patent of 1659, was once known as "Bridges Chance" by its then owner, Daniel Lamdin. The farm was later renamed Hebron, after the biblical city south of Jerusalem, by Lamdin's daughters in the early 1800s. The original home survived bombings by British forces during the Revolutionary War and was briefly occupied by British soldiers during the war of 1812. In 1932, Mable Lindsay Gillespie, the only daughter of lumber mogul David Gillespie of the Mellon Family, owner of D. L. Gillespie Lumber & Co., in Pittsburgh, Pa., bought the property, changed its name to Langdon Farm and expanded and renovated the home to its current status. Gillespie also had a number of outbuildings constructed including a feed mill, storage buildings, barns and a two-story house for the farm's manager. A private cemetery is located on the property, and it serves as the resting place for several members of the Lamdin family. Alvin E. Strock purchased the farm from the Gillespie estate in 1969. The land was subdivided into ten tracts and subsequently sold by Strock in 1971 to Thomas Watson (IBM) with the 1929 farmstead and main house intact on a single lot. William Miller purchased Langdon and ran a large beef cattle operation until sold to a syndicate who built homes on the property. Most recently Langdon was acquired by John Whitmore (Bessemer Trust Group) who completely restored the home and gardens. "It's easy for me to imagine in 1670 there were people living here from Jamestown", he explains. "The front part of the house that faces the road was built in 1803. Jefferson was president at that time and you can't help but think about that when you're here." There are plenty of tangible, historic features to focus in on, including original brickwork, wood floors and exposed beams and doorways. In this home, every major room has a working fireplace, and all the woodwork and mantels have been preserved. The room sizes and features make for nice arrangements." Whether visualizing where British soldiers took cover, eating Maryland crabs at the dock or cultivating one of the property's gardens, Langdon Farm offers a pastime for everyone!

WATER IS THE BEST OF ALL THINGS. WATER IS A WINDOW TO OUR WORLD, AND TO OUR SOULS. CAPTAIN JOHN SMITH - Recognized the true potential of the Chesapeake Region lay in its teeming waters and fertile lands, and in the way both intertwined like few places on earth, with navigable tidewater kissing thousands of miles of shore.

HARRIS CREEK - Five tributaries are key to the Bay's oyster recovery in Maryland, including Harris Creek—the country's largest oyster restoration project. With more than two billion oysters planted, the restored oyster population in Harris Creek filters the entire volume of the creek in less than ten days in the summer and can remove more than one million pounds of nitrogen annually. The wonder that something that tastes as vast as seven oceans, has the salt of just one tear, and can force a jewel from a grain of sand.

LANGDON EVOKES AN INTENSE SENSE OF PLACE - HISTORIC PROPERTIES ARE BEAUTIFUL, WITH A GRAND AND GRACEFUL HOME WITH SPRAWLING GARDENS PROVIDING IDYLLIC LIVING IN A PICTURESQUE SETTING. AN INVITATION TO COME IN - An open gate, such as the one to Langdon Farm on the Chesapeake Bay, is an invitation to another time and place. Every detail of this Estate and the grounds exude elegance and style. Just beyond the gate, an avenue of pines, beeches and maples leads to a Georgian Revival House and to farm buildings dating from a 1659 land patent. The property is located on Harris Creek, off of Tilghman Island Road to the north of Tilghman Island in Talbot County, Maryland. There are eighteen contributing buildings on the property, consisting of the main house, the overseers' house, a spring house, a wood shed, a garage, a chicken house, a greenhouse, a smokehouse, a slaughter house, a storage building, a machine shed, a barn, and a long block containing a stable, a carriage house, a storage shed, a machine shed, a granary, and a corn crib. These resources are located to the west of the main residence, outside of the wood post and rail fence, off of the entry drive.

MAIN ENTRANCE - Turnkey Ready for An Exceptional Lifestyle. Authenticity Is Priceless. A home is a true reflection of a person's lifestyle. Langdon puts the Chesapeake Bay outdoors on display while linking people to the area's nature and spiritual lands.

LAND IS POWERFUL - BIO-DIVERSITY - Coastal Living at its best - By cherishing the land that preserves our most precious memories and reminds us who we were, we gain a better perspective of who we are. The Eastern Shore will be an agricultural environment because land preservation is an important quality of the politics of the region. The Shore remains very accessible with a modern airport that can handle any plane. True, there are some things missing – like pollution, crime and traffic jams. There is something here that demands motion and challenge – the Shore is an endless parade of things going forward. "NOW THAT I HAVE SETTLED ON THE LAND AND LIVED THROUGH A PROGRESSION OF SEASONS, I BETTER UNDERSTAND THE PACE AND GUIDELINES NATURE HAS SET FOR HERSELF ON THIS PARTICULAR PIECE OF DIRT, GUIDELINES THAT ENCOURAGE CERTAIN ENDEAVORS AND DISCOURAGE OTHERS. I CAN IMPROVE THE HABITAT BY REMOVING OR ADDING TO WHAT IS ALREADY HERE, BUT THERE IS NOTHING THAT I, OR FOR THAT MATTER ANY MAN, CAN DO, TO IMPRESS NATURE."

ENJOY THE VIEW - LIVE OUTDOORS FROM SUNRISE TO SUNSET - Beyond the box hedge, the property lives up to the farm name with a field of lush grass reaching out to Harris Creek on the Chesapeake Bay.

DEPTH OF HISTORY - ART YOU CAN LIVE IN - You're opening a door that existed when Jefferson was president. Combine the farm's depth of history, quality of preservation and the spectacular views and overall setting, and you have the entire package that makes a piece of property outstanding. Rich in tradition, yet versatile, this home lends itself wonderfully to simple farm living or entertaining on either an intimate or grand scale. Its charm is priceless. As assets go, land is incomparable. Ultimate waterfront havens, family friendly communities, quaint downtowns, expansive waterfront estates, historic homes so majestically grand, they hold a new way of life! Land plays a central role in defining who we are! WHO WE ARE IS WHAT WE LEAVE BEHIND...

CREATE A LEGACY - A place of the heart where family bonds are strengthened and deepened. Where parents teach daughters and sons to fish and read the stars. Where life’s lessons are passed from one generation to the next. Where the spirit of nature reaches into our souls and makes us whole. A world where we rediscover our profound love for one another. It's a sanctuary from everyday life and a return to what we were meant to be. Langdon Farm is simple, uncomplicated joy. Of holding hands. Of sharing stories. Of the scent of pine in the air. Of watching sunlight dance on water. Of hearing the laughter of children ring across a meadow. Langdon Farm and family go together. They are one and the same. Works of Nature. Created from Love. And Made to Last Forever.

'PEAKE PERFECTION - Chesapeake Bay – Approximately 800 miles north of the Florida coast and an equal distance south of Casco Bay, Maine, lays one of the largest watershed basins in the United States: the Chesapeake Bay, child of the “mother of waters”. The bay is 200 miles long and its watershed includes six states. With over 5,600 miles of shoreline, 46 principle rivers, and countless creeks, the Chesapeake Bay is the largest inland body of water on the East Coast. Snug harbors and cozy coves provide vast opportunities for exploration and adventure. For the mariner searching for a boater’s paradise, where the seasons are long and the weather mild, the Chesapeake Bay should be at the top of the list. The water provides a center for travel, commerce and leisure, home too many species of wildlife, and a great natural resource.

LANGDON BUSINESS AND FUN - The cleanest line - it's the arc of a waking dry as it skates across brackish green water. The precise mend that slides a #22 trico on a drag-free drift into the lane. The arrow-shaped loop of a good cast driving the fly upwind into the path of a tailing striper. The cleanest line. "the cleanest line is how we aspire to mark our passage and presence on the waters that hold our dreams." the cleanest line is also a way of doing business and, beyond that, how we see our place in the world. It means leaving as light a footprint as possible, and doing what's right simply because, well, it's right. The cleanest line, then is many things. But most of all, it's how we like to experience our time on the water - waist deep. Treading lightly and looking to the horizon.

“The seasons in the landscape, much like the seasons of one’s life, are to be embraced, appreciated and weathered.” — Robin Kramer - NATURAL LAND PROJECT - NATURE MAKES YOU HAPPY! Creating places for community to flourish is important work for all of us; and, we can all make a difference. Gardens and food are natural ‘magnets’ for creating community and bringing people together. Who doesn’t love the beauty of nature and good food? Right? The richness diversity can bring to our lives cannot be underestimated. Creating pollinator habitat and food plots is another way to create community. Again, diversity is an important key.

The main house is a two-story high-style Colonial Revival brick masonry residence constructed c. 1929-1930 with a five part plan. The house has had minimal alterations since its original construction and retains the majority of its historic building fabric. The residence is separated from the agricultural complex by a wood post and rail fence, gardens, and an agricultural field. The main residence is located approximately one-eighth of a mile down a straight paved access road. The agricultural buildings are located off of the access road to the south and are arranged in a linear plan than forms a square farmyard.
